Guest Kitten: Emily of Dismantled Fashions

We have a very special guest Kitten on the blog today, the lovely Emily of Dismantled Fashions. She’s here to tell us some of her beauty deals and must haves.

There are a few things in this world that I’m obsessed with. Ok, it’s more like a ton than a few. However, for today, I’m going to stick to just a few that always make me happy:  beauty, style, and saving money.

So lovely Danger De Lux gals, I’m going to share with you my top five favorite beauty tips and recommendations and won’t break the bank. Save that extra money for some new shoes or a stunner of a new dress, you’re face and hair will be just as happy!

1. Hot Sticks – $13.00

I’ll take these babies over traditional hot rollers any day. The curl is tighter, holds longer, and with a great setting pattern and proper brush out can give you a semi pin curl illusion without the time and hassle. I use the Conair brand ones shown above, and they’re just great. Use a little heat protectant spray and some hair spray and you’re golden! Available at Target, Walmart, etc.

2. Take Time to Style Your Hair – FREE!

You know they always say you can either have a lot of time or a lot of money. Well, you can get gorgeous style with no cost at all if you can take extra time in your mornings (or nights!) to get really creative with your hair. This is actually the same principle that women used in the 1940s. Money was tight and clothing rations kept their style simple, so they turned to their hair for self expression. That’s why the 40’s had some amazing looks! Hair challenged? No worries! Go to Youtube and learn all the secrets from talented ladies all over the world, step by step. Some of my favorite gurus include LisaFreemontStreet, Thecherrydollface, and ilovegeraldo.

3. Bigen Powder Hair Dye – $6.49

If you dye your own hair at home, try this next time. Its free of ammonia and needs no peroxide or developer. Just mix the powder with water and apply! I just used it for the first time last week after lots of recommendations from friends and I ADORE it. It’s the deepest, most even black I’ve ever had. It feels so soft and silky, and it’s noticeably shinier! I used the color pictured, Oriental Black. The color range is limited, but if you like blacks, browns and auburn, you should be covered. Available at Sally’s Beauty Supply or online.

4.NYX Cosmetics – $3.00 – $15.00 for individual pieces

I was going to single out a product or two at first, but the more I thought about it the more I realized their entire line is worth a mention. I’m a huge NYX fan, and over half my daily face is their products. My favorites are (pictured above) Jumbo Eye Pencil In Milk for a great eye shadow base, Concealer Wand, Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation, and any of the eye shadows. The one pictured is my go-to trio, Nude/Taupe/Dark Brown. Available at ULTA.

5. Prime that Skin! – $6.00

I mentioned above the Jumbo Eye Pencil making a great eyeshadow base, but there is more to prime than just eyes! If you’re like me, cursed with oily skin, then priming your skin before foundation is so essential. You’ll look a lot more kept together as your night goes on, instead of that shiny drowned rat look. . It’ll not only keep your makeup on, but it will smooth and perfect your skin texture making your foundation go on so amazing. There are a lot of great products out there, but as far as money-saving goes, Monistat can’t be beat. I know what you’re thinking… “WHAT?! Monistat?! On my face?! NAH!!” I get it. But, trust me. It’s the exact same ingredients as Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer. Take a chance and try it.

I hope you enjoyed my tips and that you’ll go try some of them yourself. Have fun and happy primping!
