The first time I saw something from Fluff I am pretty sure I squealed with delight and since then I have been in love with everything Fluff! Fluff has to be one of the cutest companies on the market and if you have yet to experience all the adorable, cute, rockin stuff Fluff has to offer, now is your chance! Not only did Claudette, creator of Fluff, donated something for my giveaway, she has also let me interview her and she has created a discount code for all my lovely readers ( more on that later). And she shares a special annoucment about what’s next for Fluff for the first time on Danger De Lux!
1. Can you tell us how Fluff got started?
Fluff started as my little day dream during lunch breaks at work.It was literally just some scribbles and notes in my sketchbook.I would just add to it every day imagining if I could do my own thing what would it be.Finally I took the jump and started it as a line of greeting cards since I knew about printing. Then went door to door and sold them to local stores, then did trade shows and grew it from there.
2. What inspires you to create all the different girls and characters?
I love art deco, 1920’s illustration, Erté. Vintage pin up from the 1940’s and 50’s.Mid Century mod style and also mod from the 1960’s.Dreamy, glamorous things like the Folies Bergere, and my favorite show of all time The Crazy Horse, Paris. It is a living fantasy. I could watch it again and again… and I have, whenever I get the chance.Well, the one in Las Vegas that is. It used to be called La Femme. I still have to visit the one in Paris some day.
3. Do you have a favorite girl?
She actually doesn’t have a name but, the piece is called Mr.Pinky’s Punishment. She is the dominatrix admonishing the pink bunny. I love her because she is very cheeky, sexy and voluptuous.
4. Are you interested in pin up or vintage fashion?
Absolutely! I think pin up and vintage fashion is the most exciting to look at and to wear.It really makes one feel so glamorous and sexy. Makes you really feel like a girl, and happy to be one!It is my favorite.
5. Do you do all the artwork for Fluff?
Yes! I do all the art for Fluff. I am an art machine!… and a doll machine too! Lately, I have been making pin up dolls you can hang on your wall inspired by vintage chalk ware.
6. Can you tell us a little about the gal ( you) behind Fluff
Well, let’s see… I was born in Miami. I love the sun. I like being brown.I think lime juice in plain water is delicious and love anything with ginger in it.I wish they would bring back technicolor and soft focus glamour in films.
7. Do you listen to any music while you work? Do you have a favorite group/musician?
I always listen to music while working. I love so many kinds of music, but lately I have been listening tobandleaders and composers like Artie Shaw , Benny Goodman and Henry Mancini.I also love Exotica a lot, it is so magical and enchanting. Some favorites are Martin Denny and Les Baxter. Boss Nova always puts me in a good relaxed mood.I especially love Antonio Carlos Jobim and anything with saxophonist Stan Getz.
8. What do you love most about Fluff?
I love creating the art for it and seeing it come to life on things people can use like bags and other stuff. But just as exciting, is seeing people enjoy it. When I see someone walking down the street with a Fluff bag,I just get tickled! I want to run up and hug them. And hearing from fans is also the best! People will take time to write or call and express how much they love it. Recently someone called and told me how much my pink poodles meant to her because they reminded her of her beloved doggie that had passed recently. Her story was so heartfelt, she almost made me cry. Ok, I admit I did cry.
9. When you’re not busy creating super cute Fluff girls/characters, what do you do for fun?
I really love dancing to samba and all kinds of latin music and also bellydance.I love donning costumes just for fun.
10. Is there anything else you’d like to let us know about Fluff?
Yes! Very very soon I will be debuting magical interactive apps and games with Fluff characters come to life.Your readers are the very first to know!
