What I Wore: 1970s Italian Swing Skirt

Swish Vintage has stolen my heart. I can not walk in there without finding some treasure or another that I have to make mine. This time it was a skirt on a mannequin in the window. A wrap swing skirt, black with little white flowers, red lining along the inside, and a very full skirt -no crinoline necessary, only if you really want it.

70s12

This skirt was apparently handmade in Italy in the 70s. The construction is divine and it is in mint condition. I can not believe I scored this skirt and that no one else had snatched it up yet! It fits me perfectly too…it was fate! Its a very 50s style which is why I love it so much!

I wore it last Saturday when the sun was shinning and it was a beautiful early summer day. I headed down to a local park to soak up some rays and took advantage of the sunshine to snap a few photos…not the best, but they will do!70s32This is the perfect summer skirt. I know I am going to wear it all season long and then into the winter with tick tights and boots. I would probably style it a bit different if I were heading out with some gals or painting the town red (as I do) however this particular Saturday was a lazy, relaxed kind of day, to which this skirt was perfect for.

The red lining makes it fun to style. I wore a chunky vintage red bracelet, a german made brooch, and red hair flowers.

70s4Edmonton guys and gals, you have to go check out Swish Vintage this summer….My goodness, she has beautiful pieces in right now that will not wait around for you!

Laced Up Cabaret

Last Friday evening I attended Sweet Carousel Corsetry’s Laced Up Cabaret – an evening of decadent fashion and jaw dropping burlesque shows. I love any opportunity to get extra dolled up so as soon as I saw this event I knew I simply must go! Plus one of my besties was modeling!

1935544_10156540345220417_6571701509619404285_nThe acts of the evening were just spectacular. Special guest included Kira Von Sutra, Amber Ray, Raven Virginia, and Dangrrr Doll – my goodness these gals where fantastic. They way they moved, their costumes, and the acts themselves were beautiful!

Local talent were also present and included the likes of the stunning, Violette Coquette (one of my favorite – her costumes were so creative!), boylesque sensation Beau Creep, adorable and funny Cherry Monroe, Le Tabby Lexington who was cute as a button, and redheaded vixen Holly Von Sin.

I spent a lot of time figuring out what to wear….nothing was fitting me quite right and I really didn’t want to buy something new. I was beginning to worry….that is until I saw a fabulous vintage hat at Swish Vintage that I used for inspiration. From there everything fell into place.

20160513_201145

I ended up wearing my Oblong Box Shop pink tiki circle skirt,  HellBunny crinoline, black Fables by Barrie Bustier, Laura Byrnes shrug, Chelsea Crew mary jane heels, a vintage purse, vintage brooch, and that gorgeous vintage hat from Swish Vintage. The hat really encouraged the whole outfit – I don’t know what I would have done if I had not found it!

20160513_201136It was a lovely evening as well…summer has arrived early in Edmonton. No jacket was required for the night so I was able to display my outfit in full force.

A closer look at my outfit and my stunning gal pal who is wearing the design her wore in the Sweet Carousal show. All of the pieces were to die for and if money grew on trees, I would have them all!

20160513_214741My date and I stopped for a snack before the show and of course I had to snap photos, because well, we just looked so darling eating hot dogs!

20160513_194256isnt my friend a knockout?

20160513_194225Thanks again to Swish Vintage for the delish hat! Be sure to head over to their facebook page and stop in the shop to find some treasures for yourself!

Plus keep an eye out on The Oblong Box shop – she has some very fun new designs coming out soon, along with the very pretty ones released last summer, like the one I am wearing

Tatyana has me seeing spots.

Back in the summer I purchased a few dresses off of the Tatyana website. This was when they were switching from Bettie Page to Tatyana and had just listed a ton of super cute dresses in their clearance section. I had my eye on this little yellow number for a while but was scared to take the plunge – I usually stick to safer colours that I am familiar and comfortable with. Gosh, I can’t even recall the last time I had worn yellow! But at the price, I could not pass up this yellow wiggle dress

.taty1I was flipping through my closet trying to decide what to wear to work, when I thought, golly, I have only worn this dress once since I purchased it! I slipped it on and thought once more, why don’t I wear this dress more often?! It is super slinky, which usually makes me weary that it is going to show all my bits, but instead it hugs me just right. This yellow number is very stretchy ( it doesn’t even require a slit) and accentuates my hour glass figure.

taty2While I wore this dress to work, I think it would be equally fantastic for a night out. If there is one thing I love, its a low cut neckline and this dress does not disappoint. A pair of black heels, back-seam stockings, and vintage bangles complete my look; for an evening out, a black vinyl clutch would do the trick!

Tatyana still has a big clearance section on their website, which I believe is the brand clearing out the old Bettie Page items. Nonetheless, you can get a fantastic deal on a dress or two. I think I may have paid $20 for this dress and it was worth every dime. I purchased another one at the same time, but still have to get it tailored ( if you don’t see your size.consider buying one up to get it taken it- the price is right). I got this wiggle dress in a medium and it is the perfect fit. I find Tatyana usually fits true to size. I measure at 37-30-41.

taty4I can’t resist Cherries little face! She just wants to be a model ( it think she might just make it, don’t you?)

Below are the pretty bangle I paired with my dress- both gifts; one a glass olive bangle, and the other a yellow butterscotch carved Bakelite bangle.

What is your favorite wiggle dress? Or your favorite Tatyana dress?

Steady Clothing: Pretty in Polka Dots – The Heather Dress

It was love at first sight- the Heather dress by Steady Clothing caught my eye on the rack and I just loved the way it looked and fit when on. The Heather is a lovely bouncy swing dress- the base fabric has stretch in it, which has an overlay of polka dot chiffon. It is perfect without a crinoline, but ever so perfect with one. The fabric hangs beautifully on its own, but to give it the look of a 50’s prom dress, a crinoline is required.

_DSC2317-Edit

I wore my Heather to work paired with vintage hair and a killer cat eye. I have been thinking lately how so many people dress down and how sad I think it is that people feel they need an occasion to get all dolled up. I love getting dressed up nice to go to work…or to go out to dinner or the park or wherever. A dress is as fancy as you make it and every day life is as fancy as you make it. I loved the Heather so much I couldn’t wait to wear it and I did just that- wear it the very next day after I bought it.

_DSC2316-EditSteady Clothing is made in the U.S.A which means it is good quality so worth the price. You can get this beauty at Rowena in Edmonton or online at RetroGlam.com

I sized up in this dress to a large. I could have squeezed into a medium but I felt the large looked and felt good. My measurements are 36-29-40. The Heather has adjustable straps as well to help ensure a perfect fit at the shoulders and bust. The ruching along the bust/torso is very feminine, made complete with a white bow.

_DSC2314-EditI imagine this dress being worn to parties, weddings, even a prom. This sweet swing dress is not one to pass by. While I have many dresses that cannot be worn just anywhere, this beauty will definitely get many wears to many different places.

Feeling Vampy in Steady Clothing

I love a good peplum and finding one that I can pull off is easier said than done. The first peplum I bought was a skirt from Steady Clothing. The second and most recent peplum I bought, is also from Steady Clothing. I think its safe to say, Steady knows what they are doing.

The Emma dress from Steady Clothing is divine. I feel absolutely fabulous in it- like a total vamp, if you will. It fits me great and is a completely different cut from anything in my closet.

_DSC2331-Edit

The Emma hits me just above the knee, and features a 3/4 peplum, stopping at the hip on each side. The sweet heart neckline and playful cut-out only amp up the sass of this dress. The Emma has a fair bit of stretch, so it hugs nicely to the body.

_DSC2335-EditI purchased this dress in a medium and it fits great. I measure in at 36-29-40 and the Emma hugs me in all the right ways.

I am crossing my fingers Steady makes this dress in a ton more colours, because this is a new favorite- I feel so good in it. It is currently available in black and coral ( coral is sadly not my colour) and I highly recommend getting this before it’s gone. I believe this dress has a lot of versatility to it- I wore it to work with kitten heels and nude fishnets; it can be wore on a date, to a wedding, to a party, to a bridal shower….well, the options really are endless. And at $94 this dress is a steal if you ask me!

_DSC2332-Edit

In these photos I paired the Emma with T.U.K creeper wedges and a RAGO cincher to get an amplified hourglass shape.

Head down to Rowena and check out the Emma and all the other amazing dresses from Steady Clothing.

A day out with Sourpuss

It was a beautiful day out and after a big run, all I wanted was to spend even more time outside soaking up the sun. It was the perfect day to head down to Fort Edmonton Park- a step back in time! I wanted to wear something cute and light, so of course I wore my Floozy dress from Sourpuss Clothing.

fort edm park 003

The first stop in the fort in The Midway Park, which I absolutely love! In fact I was thinking what a great place it would be to have a wedding ( I’m not getting married…yet). There was a Ferris Wheel, a lovely carousal, and a bunch of old fashioned midway games!

fort edm park 004

Everyone who works at Fort Edmonton Park are dressed for the era they are working in and are in character the whole time. One gal told me I looked very pretty, but next time I wear a short dress, I should be wearing stockings! It was quite cute.

fort edm park 010

The Floozy dress is comfortable, but still cute, which is what I want in a little day dress. The dress comes with the red belt shown, which I love – I think polka dots and red are like chocolate and peanut butter. I wore a little anchor necklace, which matched the colors of the dress, and a couple little black roses in my hair.

fort edm park 016There are tons of old cars to go with the different eras represented. This was an old fire hall, this thus the vintage fire trucks.

fort edm park 018I love old signs like these ones! I had to snap a photo in front of the Coca Cola billboard – I thought it was a great pair with my dress, don’t you?!

Like the previous Sourpuss dresses I have reviewed, this one is a medium. It fits good, just like it should. My measurements are: 36-29-40. This little dress is such a good summer frock, especially when it is priced so reasonably. Check out Rowena or RetroGlam.com to find the Floozy and other sweet summer dresses from Sourpuss Clothing

Sourpuss makes great little pinup dresses, that are so affordable but still good quality. I always feel cute when I am wearing one of their dresses! I have one more little Sourpuss dress to review, so keep an eye out for that! In the meantime, follow me on:

Pinup Girl Clothing- Stephanie Buscema’s Mermaid

Pinup Girl Clothing is at it again- making rockabilly and pinup dolls drool and break the bank for the amazing prints and cuts they put out this season. I have a hard time talking myself out of buying something from Pinup Girl- the very fact that it it made in the states, is a big seller for me; its good quality, the designs are so unique, and well, I am lucky enough to get a discount on it at the moment, so I feel like I need to stockpile ( how awful is that?!).

I have to say I have yet to regret any Pinup Girl purchase to date, no matter how much it cost ( even with a discount, some items are still pricey). My wee apartment closet can’t take much more, but still I try to stuff more in her…come on little closet, we have got to work together, so we can both have beautiful things.

The Mermaid Mexican circle skirt is my latest Pinup Girl purchase… I couldn’t help myself- it is gorgeous! Stephanie Buscema teamed up with Pinup Girl Clothing to produce this unique, exclusive design, which is just out of this world! mermaid 003mermaid 001This skirt was so much fun to wear and I got a ton of complements on it. I wore it to work, because I couldn’t wait to wear it. In fact, I felt so gosh darn pretty, I told my boyfriend we had to go out after work, so all my effort wouldn’t go to waste.

2014-06-14 11.22.40 (2)I paired it with a fabulous bustier top from Fables by Barrie. I usually hate strapless shirts and dresses, but the construction of this top is fantastic- it fit amazing and i felt comfortable and secure in it. Worth every single penny! All the girls at the shop scooped one up, so if you fancy one, i’d get in there right away, so as not to miss out!

I am also wearing a lovely vintage necklace, which matches nicely with the blue on the skirt, and black heels. My hair was so cooperative that morning as well, so victory rolls were in order to complete the look.

2014-06-14 11.23.04 (2)My waist is 29″ and I got a medium in the skirt. It doesn’t close with a zipper, rather it has buttons in front, which are then hidden with the ‘wrap’ part of the skirt. The construction is rather interesting, and on the pinup girl website, they say they designed it after traditional Mexican circle skirts. Their website also suggests to size down if you are in between sizes, simply because the size is semi adjustable due to the button closure.

My Fables top is a medium, which fit great. My bust is 36″, however another girl with a 38″ bust from the shop, could also wear a medium.

Both pieces are from Rowena. The skirt will be on the RetroGlam.com site, but the top can only be found in store ( but you can order over the phone if you can’t get into the shop)

Sorry for the poor quality photos, I was just so excited, I wanted to share right away
