All Natural Pinup: My Favorite Mascara

For the last 8 months or so, I have been switching over all my cosmetics and toiletries to all natural, chemical and cruelty free versions (read more about it here). I have converted almost all of my makeup now to the natural version of what I once used. While some of it is quite different ( the lipsticks), some of it is very much the same (eye shadow). One of my favorite conversions so far so been the mascara.

Pure Anada is my favorite all natural cosmetics company- they have everything you need to make the switch, plus are Canadian and budget friendly ( read more about them here). Today I want to dedicate a whole post to their mascara…oh boy, do I love their mascara.

10987314_875939745806055_7817043415040917192_nSince I was a teenager,  I have been constantly looking for the perfect mascara. Something that will give me volume, without clumping. Something that will give me length and will stay on. And of course, it had to be the blackest black.

I bought Pure Anada’s mascara without reading any reviews or even knowing if it would be good. All I knew was that Pure Anada was a chemical free company and was on Jill Deacons list of good cosmetic companies to buy.  I bought it off of well.ca, where I get most of my natural cosmetics. It was only $14 so I didn’t think it was too much of an investment if it didn’t work out.

690ada796e8418d70e7ed33925561466_ra,w403,h403_pa,w403,h403It did work out. And it was amazing. Just think, you can get drug store brand mascaras for the same price ( sometimes more) and those ones are filled with cancer causing chemicals. Pure Anadas mascara is paraban, mercury, and gluten free. Instead it is made with coconut oil, olive oil, and rice bran wax. It has a small list of ingredients which you can pronounce!

As a pinup gal, your makeup is a huge part of your look. And, for me, the eyes are the most important – a good cat eye, strong, shaped brows, and luscious lashes. A lot of gals wear false eyelashes, and believe me, if I could just master it, I would too. But let’s me honest, I do not have the time and at my new job, they aren’t really appropriate. So, I turn to mascara to give me the lashes I need to complete my look. Pure Anada mascara makes my lashes long and voluminous and oh so black.

It has great staying power despite not actually being water proof. I can teach a class and get sweaty and still not have raccoon eyes. That being said, it is easy to take off too- I use Green Beaver Makeup Remover.

Well.ca carries almost all of Pure Anadas products, but if you head over to Pure Anadas website you can see actual stores that sell their products. I have tried a bunch of their products and have loved every one…I have yet to have a bad experience with any of their cosmetics – ive tried their eye shadow, concealer, bronzer, eye brow powder, mascara, lipsticks, brushes, and tinted moisturizer and I have loved it all!

This is the ultimate wiggles dress, that drips sex appeal. This one can fit a bit snug. I am wearing a medium in the photos, however if I wanted to be able to sit or walk with any poise, I would need to wear a large. The Folly Flair comes in sizes: small, medium, large, extra large, and 2 extra large

The Lena in Olive is the perfect dress for a formal event this holiday season, especially if you want to be the belle of the ball. Trashy Diva sizes run from a 2 (xs) to an 18 ( 2xl). An 8 is usually a perfect fit for me in trashy diva dresses. The Lena is a cool $225 and worth every penny – the fantastic detailing on the bust kicks the glam on this dress up a few notches.

Banned Apparel: Sweet and Simple

I first saw Banned in the London Edge trade show catalog…. A model was holding the most gorgeous flamingo purse; I looked at the small print and saw the brand was Banned Apparel. Fast forward a few months and I am unpacking a new shipment from a new brand at Rowena. That brand was Banned Apparel.

BAIT AND BANNED 022Banned Apparel is based out of the UK and is the result of the dismemberment of Living Dead Souls. While some of their stuff is alternative/gothic style clothing… some of it is amazing retro reproduction. The cardigans I have seen are just beautiful – the appliques, the detailing, and the fabric are all very pretty and have a vintage touch to them. They are so sweet and so simple – just what every pin up girl needs. But what I was most looking forward to was that handbag that initially caught my attention.

BAIT AND BANNED 021

Are they not just the most beautiful handbag you have ever seen…well, pretty close anyway. They are even better in person. And they are so functional. They actually open up fairly wide, have a few compartments, zip closed, have a handle and a cross body strap. And they are only $63! I may have just have to get all three colours… that’s normal right?

We filmed a little video at Rowena yesterday, to show off all the new Banned we got in. This is my first video like this- usually I’m doing my hair or showing exercises- so please don’t judge my slight awkwardness 😉

I plan on doing a lot more videos like this one, so keep an eye out for those or give me suggestions for things you would like to see.

A big thank you to my lovely co-workers who helped to the video- you gals are the best…for real!

BAIT AND BANNED 020( look how pretty my co-worker is!)

Come into Rowena and pick up a cardigan and matching handbag or head to RetroGlam.com to get yours! Flat rate shipping in Canada is available for $8, so really there is no reason not to order!

And here is our little video!

New Hair Tutorial: faux victory rolls, pin curls, & clip in hair, oh my!

I finally got a chance to make another hair tutorial. I’ve been playing around with my hair a lot lately and trying out new things, which I wanted to share! I have also been getting tired of my hair lately too… its pretty bland, if you will… long and red… I oh so badly want to dye it… but wont. I have this thing about dying my natural hair colour… I haven’t dyed it in four years and its finally healthy. So, instead I’ve been playing around with clip in coloured hair and lots of pin curls and victory rolls.

I got some great clip in hair strips by Manic Panic at Rowena and they have been doing the trick! I can change the colour lickity split and not damage my hair. Every time I wear them at work, I get compliments, which makes me happy, in hopes I’m tricking some people into thinking I’m being adventurous with my hair.

I hope you like this tutorial… I had a few technical difficulties, but made it through! There will be a few more following this one too! If there is anything you’d like to see, please let me know…any other styles, makeup trips, fashion tips, etc.
