Pinup Girl Clothing: New Blue Heidi

I am naturally drawn to dark colours… black, olive green, purple, burgundy…. But when I saw the new blue Heidi from Pinup Girl Clothing, something deep inside of me sqeeued with joy and told me I had to try it on. The colour is such a unqiue, striking blue… its not baby blue, its not royal blue, its not sky blue…it’s a fun, girly, whimsical blue…its a little warm, but bright. It’s a rich and creamy blue.

_DSC2341-EditThe Heidi is an amazing cut – it is figure flattering and the perfect swing dress. I hope by know we all own at least one. Shown here with a white crinoline to create a contrast with the colour of the dress; crinolines are the perfect accessory to any swing dress.

I love the way the new blue looks with my red hair and oh so slightly sun kissed and very freckled skin. A few of the girls at the shop have blonde hair and I can’t wait to see it on them too. I think this colour is going to look great on so many gals- the typical blue eyes and blonde hair, black hair and pale skin, redheads like me, rich brunettes, and those with fun pink, blue, and purple hair.

_DSC2347-EditThis Heidi, like every other Heidi I have or have tried on, is a medium. My measurements are 36-29-40. This fits perfect, no alterations needed! I know some ladies find the Heidi big in the shoulders, that’s an easy fix at the tailors. The Heidi hits be just below my knee and gives me a great feminine shape.

_DSC2348-EditThe Heidi rings in around $113 which is a great deal. Did you know Pinup Girl Clothing is actaully made in the U.S.A, which is a rarity in todays fast-fashion world. And if you take care of your clothes, they will last you through the years. I am a firm believer in buying quality goods and without a doubt Pinup Girl Clothing produces quality dresses, at very reasonable prices. The Heidi is a great addition to your pinup wardrobe and if you can only afford one or two dresses now and again, I would highly recommend making this one one of them.

I got this Heidi, along with all my others, from Rowena. This heidi, with all its friends can also be found on RetroGlam.com.

I’d hurry up and snag one of these blues ones quick though, as I don’t imagine they will linger around long. For real, the colour is amazing.

Mighty Minty in Pinup Girls Dames Dress

I must admit I was wary of this dress when I first saw it… the light colour, the tight fit- I was certain it would be a disaster. But it wasnt! In fact, the Dames dress in mint is quite dreamy.

_DSC2367-EditThe Dames dress is made of Pinup Girls signature bengaline, so it hugs and molds to the body in all the best ways. This cut is so classic and oh so pinup…it is a blank canvas, making it an absolute staple. Add some killer heels and sparkly jewelry and off to the ball with you! Add a shrug and come cute ballerina flats and you’re ready for a day at the office or strolling around town.

_DSC2377-EditI sized up to a large in the Dames dress. My measurements, to compare, are 36-29-40. I might have been able to squeeze into a medium, but in this colour and cut, I don’t think that would be advisable.

I got this Dames dress at Rowena.  This dress can also be found on RetroGlam.com, along with the black and red one if you’d like something a bit more traditional. If you think you can’t pull the Dames dress off, you are wrong, just like I was. The moment I put it on, I knew  I had to have it. I do not own anything in this colour or anything this light even, so there was no question about it, it would be mine.

_DSC2360-Edit

The colour of this dress makes me think of milkshakes, ponies, carnivals, and cotton candy. It is both sweet and sultry. And I think it suites my Flamingo tattoo quite nicely 😉

I am head over heels in love with the Dames dress!

the alberta bound tattoo convention

This past weekend was the Alberta Bound Tattoo Convention. Because the shop I work at is pretty cool, we had a booth at the convention to advertise all the wicked clothes we sell and also sell some of those wicked clothes. I had the fortune ( or misfortune…) of setting up, tearing down, and running the rodeo! But the best part of it was getting all dolled up with the other gals from the shop and showing off all the pin up dresses we sell at Rowena! I made sure to get lots of photos to show you our fancy outfits.

Each day, me and the other gal(s) wore matching outfits, had our hair done up and big smiles on our faces. So lets get to it…

Day 1: Friday night was “Adults Night”. A bunch of burlesque performers put on a show -most notably the gorgeous Ophelia Overdose performed two fantastic numbers.

My gal pal and I wore the Gil by Sourpuss. We also made some pretty wicked hair flowers to match our dresses. I don’t want to go too much in to detail about this lil number, because I want to review it for you all later.

I snapped a few photos of Ophelia too…

Day 2:  Saturday, the day that would not end…. this was the longest day, coming in at 10 hours ( the longest working the show…Friday was a 12 hour day). There were three of us working and we all wore the Dames Dress by Deadly Dames/Pinup Girl Clothing. For all you Cry Baby fans, this dress was based off of the one Wanda wore in the film. I found some gorgeous black orchids at the craft store, so made them in to hair flowers to wear with the Dames dress.

Day 3: The final day of the convention. We didn’t have quite matching dresses, but we both wore leopard by Pinup Girl Clothing. Mine is the leopard Heidi and Meagan wore the retro leopard Vamp. I through my hair up in a PUG nylon scarf and it was a mess from the other two days; I’m really into that whole mini beehive I mentioned in a previous post.

10373947_10152239038588224_2104106952553043253_nIt was fun to see all the different artists and performers, even if the days were long. It was also nice to get out of the shop for the weekend- a change of scenery is always good. After three very long days, I am left exhausted, but at least I got to get dressed up, meet some nice people, and let every one know about the best pin-up shop in Alberta…Rowena of course!

Danger De Lux Review: The Sheila dress from Hell Bunny

Hell Bunny has been making lovely, light and flowy dresses the past couple of seasons and are back at it for spring. The Sheila dress is a sweet staple for spring and summer. With an apple and daisy motif, this 50’s style reproduction dress should definitely be considered for every gals wardrobe.

The Sheila comes in three colors- black, smokey blue, and a pale green. I decided to review the green, as green and red hair are a perfect pair 😉

_DSC0237-2I paired the Sheila with a red crinoline and one of the new belts from Hell Bunny, which kind of remind me of the 80’s, but are such great belts to add on to almost any dress. The girls at work all have them and guaranteed one of them is wearing one every day!

I am wearing a medium in the Sheila and it fits quite nicely. I didn’t feel restricted or uncomfortable, but comfy, because the fabric is so light. Here are my measurements so you can compare for yourself:

Bust: 37″ Waist: 29″ Hips 40″

If I look at the size chart, my top half would fit the large and my bottom half would just squeeze into the small. I almost always wear a medium in Hell Bunny, unless it has stretch panels, then I go down a size. If you are ordering this dress, I would get your usual size or call/email the shop and ask to compare a size with your measurements.

_DSC0234-2The only issue I had with this dress was how darn staticy is was! Defiantly get a can of static guard if you’re planning on getting this lovely little frock. But for $52 this dress is a steal! I tried mine on at Rowena but you can also get it at Retroglam.com

_DSC0235-2Hell Bunny is a great brand to check out if you’re just getting into pinup and retro style, or need an outfit for a theme party or event. Their dresses are usually very flattering, on all body types, they have a great variety, and are a fantastic price. Hell Bunny is also a leader in plus size retro fashion, making beautiful dresses up to 4xxl.

Danger De Lux Review: Winter Blossom by Heart of Haute

I am in love with the Amanda dress from Heart of Haute. This has got to my favorite cut of dress from this brand. I find it very flattering and feminine. Rowena got in the Amanda is Winter Blossom, which made my heart flutter.

I slipped it on and knew it had to be mine.

_DSC0187I love this color, especially with my skin tone and hair color. Its a delicate blue with weaves of gold – I love it!

I love that this dress is just simply cotton, which makes it very wearable, comfortable and so easy to dress up or wear casual. I have to admit, I didn’t think I would truly like it as much as I do. Some colors and fits just really work, and this dress is one of those which just made me feel pretty.

_DSC0192I am wearing the Amanda is medium and it fits great. I shared my measurements a few posts ago, but just a reminder, for reference:
Bust: 37″ Waist: 29″ Hips 40″

I know some Heart of Haute has been fitting small lately, however this one fits just right. This dress is super sweet and I think should become a staple in every pinup gals wardrobe- in this fabric or any of the others.

_DSC0189_DSC0188

This darling little dress will be coming home with me and shall be worn to many events- picnics, drinks with girlfriends, weddings, afternoon bbqs- okay, those are just the places I am day dreaming I will wear it, when in fact this spring and summer is going to be so super busy developing my new business! Maybe I can wear it to a business function!

Thanks again to Rowena  for always having the very best dresses! And don’t forget to check out RetroGlam.com to snag some Heart of Haute, including the Winter Blossom Amanda.
