Rowena carries a wide selection of fabulous pinup and rockabilly style dresses that range from $50- $300. Thankfully, there are some great repro brands that are able to make classic and beautiful dresses that won’t break the bank.  The second part to Holiday Dresses with Danger De Lux and Rowena, presents gorgeous dresses that are oh so affordable, so much so that you could even get two!

_DSC3413eVoodoo Vixen has created some stunning dresses this season which are just perfect for holiday get togethers

The Betty Boo and Sally green peacock dresses are fantastic holiday dresses that are both under $100. The Betty Boo is $95, while the Sally is $84. Both of these dresses are available in sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large.

_DSC3411eThe Betty Boo runs true to size, as Meagan wore a medium. This taffeta frock has an a-line skirt and a touch of sass with the cleavage bearing neckline.

_DSC3420e _DSC3419eThe Sally mini dress is one of my favorites this season. If you are looking for something flirty this year, the Sally is just the dress for you. With adjustable straps the Sally makes a for a great fit; this runs true to size, as I wore a medium.

Voodoo Vixen brings us another beauty- the Ava dress. I enjoy the fabric of this dress, which reminds me of the late 60’s, but with a more 50’s cut. This dress is a lovely holiday dress if you are looking for something a bit more modest. Available in sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large. The Ava runs a touch small, as Meagan sized up to a large. For $95 the Voodoo Vixen Ava is a great little frock for the holidays.

The Viviene also from Voodoo Vixen is sassy dress for those fun holiday parties, where you know you can let loose. Not only is this dress leopard print, but it is velour and very stretchy ( a.k.a comfortable). The Viviene comes in sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large.

The Viviene is available in store or for phone order

_DSC3473e_DSC3474eHell Bunny has made an absolutely divine wiggle dress that screams Mad Men! I left like Joan in the Bernadette and once I saw these photos I was sold on it. This dress has a ton of elements that make it holiday worthy- the color, the lovely waterfall on the hip, the sexy fit, and the sweet keyhole neckline. The dress is available in sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, and extra large. I wore a medium in the Bernadette. This dress is only $66 and at the price you could get one in every color ( also available in plum, black, and red)

Hell Bunny also present us with the Benita, a very simple, elegant black dress. Its three quarter length sleeves, high neckline, and below the knee hemline makes this dress highly versatile! While I was very covered in this frock, I still felt very sexy. The Benita is available in sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, and extra large. This dress runs a bit big, as I fit into a small perfectly.

Pinup Girl Clothing- Stephanie Buscema’s Mermaid

Pinup Girl Clothing is at it again- making rockabilly and pinup dolls drool and break the bank for the amazing prints and cuts they put out this season. I have a hard time talking myself out of buying something from Pinup Girl- the very fact that it it made in the states, is a big seller for me; its good quality, the designs are so unique, and well, I am lucky enough to get a discount on it at the moment, so I feel like I need to stockpile ( how awful is that?!).

I have to say I have yet to regret any Pinup Girl purchase to date, no matter how much it cost ( even with a discount, some items are still pricey). My wee apartment closet can’t take much more, but still I try to stuff more in her…come on little closet, we have got to work together, so we can both have beautiful things.

The Mermaid Mexican circle skirt is my latest Pinup Girl purchase… I couldn’t help myself- it is gorgeous! Stephanie Buscema teamed up with Pinup Girl Clothing to produce this unique, exclusive design, which is just out of this world! mermaid 003mermaid 001This skirt was so much fun to wear and I got a ton of complements on it. I wore it to work, because I couldn’t wait to wear it. In fact, I felt so gosh darn pretty, I told my boyfriend we had to go out after work, so all my effort wouldn’t go to waste.

2014-06-14 11.22.40 (2)I paired it with a fabulous bustier top from Fables by Barrie. I usually hate strapless shirts and dresses, but the construction of this top is fantastic- it fit amazing and i felt comfortable and secure in it. Worth every single penny! All the girls at the shop scooped one up, so if you fancy one, i’d get in there right away, so as not to miss out!

I am also wearing a lovely vintage necklace, which matches nicely with the blue on the skirt, and black heels. My hair was so cooperative that morning as well, so victory rolls were in order to complete the look.

2014-06-14 11.23.04 (2)My waist is 29″ and I got a medium in the skirt. It doesn’t close with a zipper, rather it has buttons in front, which are then hidden with the ‘wrap’ part of the skirt. The construction is rather interesting, and on the pinup girl website, they say they designed it after traditional Mexican circle skirts. Their website also suggests to size down if you are in between sizes, simply because the size is semi adjustable due to the button closure.

My Fables top is a medium, which fit great. My bust is 36″, however another girl with a 38″ bust from the shop, could also wear a medium.

Both pieces are from Rowena. The skirt will be on the site, but the top can only be found in store ( but you can order over the phone if you can’t get into the shop)

Sorry for the poor quality photos, I was just so excited, I wanted to share right away

What I Wore: Pinup Girl’s Jenny skirt and Peaseant top

I am a sucker for holidays, so naturally on Valentines Day, I wanted to dress pretty and of course in the traditional holiday colors. I was also working which was more of an excuse to dress up. A week or so prior, I put on the cherry jenny skirt and red ( and black) peasant top, both from Pinup Girl Clothing, for an instagram photo for the store, and as luck would have it, I fell in love with both pieces. Needless to say, they had to come home with me.

I will admit I was weary of the Jenny skirt at first – there is just so much fabric! But when I put it on, I quite liked it. At the store I hear it all the time, when ladies put on a swing skirt for the very first time- i look so big! But in reality, they don’t, in fact they look much smaller and like they have a more traditional shape. Because they jenny skirt has so much darn fabric, the fear is doubled, however I like my shape in it.

_DSC0202Now, lets talk about fit for a minute, because boy does this skirt fit small! My waist is 29″ and I almost always wear a medium in Pinup Girl Clothing. This Jenny is a large and is still a little snug, coming in at 28″ at the waist. So ladies, size up, when you are ordering one of this skirts, so you won’t be disappointed when it just wont zip up.

The peasant top, fits nice and snug in a medium, just the way I would like it to.

_DSC0204I got both of these pieces at Rowena, in Edmonton, where they have a few other patterns of the Jenny dress ( the italian scene, spider print…) and also the peasant top in black., their online shop also carries all these goodies, so do not fear if you don’t live around here, Rowena has got you covered!

_DSC0203For Valentines Day my lovely boyfriend surprised me with a candlelit dinner and cupcakes from my favorite cupcake shop, Crave. After dinner, we went ice skating, which was funny because neither of us had been skating in 10-15 years! But we got the hang of after a few minutes, so I am certain will be going a few more times before the ice melts.

How was your Valentines Day? What sort of love-sick shenanigans did you get up tp?

Danger De Lux Hair Tutorial: Victory Rolls

Victory rolls are the very first retro hair style I tried. I especially love them because they are fairly rockabilly in style, so not so insanely retro. It use ti take me ages to put my hair up in victory rolls and then the frustration would set in, so it was often I wore my hair in them. Now, I’ve realized to stop trying to make them so damn perfect and just work with them, until they are close enough. Now, I can do them in 5-10 minutes, so I wear victory rolls more often. I also have very long hair, so I make my rolls pretty big and fat, which is what I like!

This tutorial is quick and easy! You will need: a backcombing comb, hairspray, pomade ( if you have it), and bobby pins ( i use three different kinds in the video)

Please let me know what you think and if there are any other tutorials you’d like to see!

Have fun!!

the man eater- by pinup girl clothing

My latest and most coveted purchase from Pinup Girl Clothing is the Kinky Box Skirt in the Man Eater Plant print- it is divine! Reminisceint of Audrey 2 from The Little Shop of Horrors this skirt is every kind of right! The colour combination is absolutely perfect- the purple is not bright nor deep and goes just right with the green of the flytrap man eater plant. I am not one for colour- in fact, I’m not sure I own any purple, but this skirt truly is fantastic.

I think all the girls at work have their eye on this skirt and I am sure we are all going to end up with one. MAN EATER 018I paired the man eater skirt with a simple black top from Rock Steady and black B.A.I.T. heels. I had a few extra minutes to spare this morning so I threw my hair up in big, fat victory rolls to complete the look.

I got so many compliments on my outfit, mainly because of my fabulous skirt! The kinky box skirt fits quite small however- I bought a large, and while it is a touch big, there was no way I was getting into a medium, so keep that in mind when ordering ( I plan on getting mine taken in a smidge so it will be a perfect fit).

MAN EATER 006I am so in love with this skirt that I very much plan on getting it in the Fetish print as well. My fall wardrobe is going to be over flowing with Pinup Girl!

MAN EATER 025I got my kinky box skirt at Rowena and you bet you can get one there too, including the fetish print. Check out too, to see what they have in stock.

what i wore: betsey

I am a huge fan of animal print. Some days I will wear four different prints (my boyfriend will then tell me I can’t wear so many different prints at one time, but I disagree). Leopard is, of course, my favorite. So, you bet when I saw a glimmer of leopard print as I opened the box of a new pinup girl shipment, I got just a little excited ( I already new, without having to open the bag, which dress it was). The new Betsey swing dress by Pinup Girl is absolutely  darling!

The Betsey has a huge, full skirt, so it would be amazing with a crinoline ( or two). It also has adorable little heart shaped pockets on the front. It features faux buttons down the torso, adjustable straps, a thin black belt, and a back zipper, with some stretch along the top, in the form of elastic. I purchased a medium and it just fits- it is slightly snug along the top of the chest and underarms, but not so much that I would consider going a size up.

I didn’t accessorize this outfit too much. Just my favorite Fly London chunky kitten heels and a red flower in my hair. I had a few extra minutes to spare that morning so I did my hair extra nice, because I left my lovely new dress deserved fancy hair. I had never gotten so many compliments on my hair, as I did that day! Around these parts, you don’t see a whole heck of a lot of retro styled hair ( its more like, bleach blonde or black, crazy extensions, and big, bumpit/snookie hair- okay not everyone, but lots of girls!). Anyway, I was quite pleased with my self, so its needless to say, I had a great day- its amazing what a pretty dress and a good hair day can do!

This is by far my new favorite dress ( I know, I say that about everything). I of course got my Betsey at Rowena– they have a full size range in stock, so if you’re in town, I head there and snatch one up before they are all gone! will have them up shortly as well, just in case you don’t live in Edmonton

I hope you all have a swell day!!

the erin wiggle dress in sunny las vegas

I was just in Las Vegas for a well needed vacation with some of my girlfriends and I made sure to pack all my favorite dresses. We got there Thursday morning and went to see PIN UP that evening. I figured it would be the perfect place and time to get all dolled up, pin-up style.

When I first bought my black Erin wiggle dress by Pinup Couture, I wore it all the time- it was my “go to” dress. As my dress collection continues to grow, I don’t have time for all of my dresses anymore. I decided last minute to bring my erin dress and I am pleased that I did.

vegas 2013 015

( I know I look ridiculous haha but the dress looks good)

The Erin dress should be  staple in every gals wardrobe. This dress is perfect for just about any occasion, depending on how you accessorize and do your hair and makeup. Its made of that pinup girl bengaline we all love, so it is fitted but comfortable because of the stretch. Mine is a medium, so I would say it fits true to size. I got my Erin dress at Rowenathey have a ton of other colors in stock right now too. And if you’re not in Edmonton, you can check out RetroGlam, com where you can snag one as well.

vegas 2013 010

As you can see this dress is very low cut, which I actually quite enjoy; although I think I need to pin it down a bit, because my bra kept peeking out! I paired it with my comfy Dolce Vita wedges, red sparkle lux de ville mini gambler, and a skull and anchor necklace. I also added a thin black belt, ya know, just cause.

vegas 2013 020

I was extra meticulous with my makeup and even added some glittery eyeliner- its Vegas, after all. And of course, I did some big victory rolls, as I so often do.

One of my girlfriends snapped this cheesy photo of me while we stopped to watch the Bellagio fountain, on the way to the Stratosphere where Pin Up was.

vegas 2013 011

A little on PIN UP then, as that’s why I got all dressed up. It was okay…. it wasn’t what I was expecting. Our seats were fantastic- at the very front, next to the stage. The band and singer were amazing and the dancers were great. The costumes were good and the set was so-so. But the real disappointment was actually with Claire Sinclair. While she is cute as a button and made a good host, that was pretty much it. She had a small role in the whole production and didn’t even dance, she just shimmied and shook and played the part of  simple pin-up girl. Otherwise, it was worth the $54 I spent- which is cheap for a Vegas show. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend going to see it while you are there, unless you have nothing better to so or are super into the rockabilly thing ( which is why I wanted to see it).
