Danger De Lux gets a new tattoo!

I have been waiting for what seems like ages to get a new tattoo! And this past Friday I was finally able to get what I have been lusting after! A pineapple tattoo!!

I’ve been following Julie from Lucky Strike Tattoos on instagram for a while and fell in love with her style. Top that off with glowing reviews and I knew I wanted this girl to do my next tattoo. Her style reminds me of Mimsy of Mimsys Trailer Trash tattoo in Australia, and boy would I ever love to get tattooed there! But Julies style is exactly what I wanted and I am so in love with her work and especially the pineapple she did for me!

Here are a couple pieces she did for some other lucky folks

julieAlso I snuck some photos of her room in the studio ( I hope she doesn’t mind). It was too cute not to! Its retro and girly and sweet like sugar!

20150403_124319 (2)20150403_110448 (2)The pictures don’t do it justice…its really just the sweetest and totally suited to her personality! She was wearing a top with pizza slices all over it, a bow in her hair, heart shaped ear weights, and red lipstick! So cute!

I emailed Julie a little while back asking her for a pineapple and what she drew was absolutely perfect! And with the colour its even better!

Eeee I love it! Seriously gals (and guys) go see Julie at Lucky Strike Tattoo

I intend to finish up the bottom of my leg in the next few months with more tropical themed pieces, like tikis, cocktail drinks, etc, all done by Julie!

This is probably my new favorite piece. Do you have a favorite tattoo?

Banned Apparel: Sweet and Simple

I first saw Banned in the London Edge trade show catalog…. A model was holding the most gorgeous flamingo purse; I looked at the small print and saw the brand was Banned Apparel. Fast forward a few months and I am unpacking a new shipment from a new brand at Rowena. That brand was Banned Apparel.

BAIT AND BANNED 022Banned Apparel is based out of the UK and is the result of the dismemberment of Living Dead Souls. While some of their stuff is alternative/gothic style clothing… some of it is amazing retro reproduction. The cardigans I have seen are just beautiful – the appliques, the detailing, and the fabric are all very pretty and have a vintage touch to them. They are so sweet and so simple – just what every pin up girl needs. But what I was most looking forward to was that handbag that initially caught my attention.

BAIT AND BANNED 021

Are they not just the most beautiful handbag you have ever seen…well, pretty close anyway. They are even better in person. And they are so functional. They actually open up fairly wide, have a few compartments, zip closed, have a handle and a cross body strap. And they are only $63! I may have just have to get all three colours… that’s normal right?

We filmed a little video at Rowena yesterday, to show off all the new Banned we got in. This is my first video like this- usually I’m doing my hair or showing exercises- so please don’t judge my slight awkwardness 😉

I plan on doing a lot more videos like this one, so keep an eye out for those or give me suggestions for things you would like to see.

A big thank you to my lovely co-workers who helped to the video- you gals are the best…for real!

BAIT AND BANNED 020( look how pretty my co-worker is!)

Come into Rowena and pick up a cardigan and matching handbag or head to RetroGlam.com to get yours! Flat rate shipping in Canada is available for $8, so really there is no reason not to order!

And here is our little video!

what’s in your makeup bag: Safauna-Hello June Photography

Today Safauna from Hello June Photography and Rowena, shares what makeup she loves and uses when getting all gussied up.

I am excited to share with you Safauna and her makeup kit, as she is the one who has been taking all the lovely photos of me lately. Safauna does a great a pinup look, is a total babe, and is one the most sarcastic gals I know ( and that’s why we all love her). She is an absolute top-notch photographer and has really helped me learn to pose and feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Here is what Safauna had to say about her look

“I’m not big on wearing make-up everyday but when I do this is what I use. It’s pretty self explanatory and not over the top fancy (ie totally drug store make-up). I do always carry brush cleaner for my eyeliner brush, it makes a better line if done with a clean brush. And the setting powder was a fluke, I ran out of my Cover FX setting powder and decided to try using Lush dusting powder in its place (no one likes a shiny face!) and have preferred it over traditional setting powders I’ve used (and it smells oh so lovely!). The EstĂ©e Lauder pallet covers all my eyebrow, blush, and bronzer needs and if I decide to wear eyeshadow (which I typically don’t) it is satisfactory. Main thing is to get a good red lipstick; I prefer Besame after years of using 24 hour lipsticks that dried my lips out and just wasn’t nice. Besame is smooth, doesn’t dry out, and is easy to remove (so if you make a mistake it’s not the end of the world!). Easy peasy!”

Estée Lauder Pallet
Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer Pro
Covergirl Clean Oil Control Foundation in Classic Ivory
Maybelline Mascara -Black
Maybelline Eyestudio Cream Eyeliner + brush
Estée Lauder gloss
Besame lipstick in American Beauty, Red Hot Red, and (not pictured) Red.
Quo Brush Shampoo
Cover FX setting powder container with Lush Silky Underwear Dusting Powder replacing original setting powder.

Safauna is able to achieve a very classic look with minimal makeup and with out the big price tag of designer brands. Creating a pinup look does not have to cost a lot- work with what you have, the brands you’ve used, know, and trust, and practice the look ( this goes for the fashion, hair, and makeup).

photo 1Safauna plays up her features – her big eyes and luscious lips- with a great cat eye and a great red lip. I would have to agree with her that Beseme makes fabulous lipsticks that last through the day, are cruelty free, American made, and feel great on your lips.

What is your favorite lipstick?

Danger De Lux Review: Voodoo Vixen by Pinup Girl Clothing

The first of many reviews to come, the Voodoo Vixen dress from Pinup Girl Clothing. I have to admit I was a bit weary of this dress when I first saw it- I wasn’t sold on the fabric and however once I saw it on, that all changed.

When I put it on, my mind was blown. This dress fits like a dream and it insanely flattering. I’ve seen it on about 5 or 6 different body types and it looks good on everyone!

_DSC0177I’ve begun my search for my grad dress and at first thought I would for sure get the Folly Flair ( also from Pinup Girl Clothing) but it didn’t fit quite right. Thank goodness for the Voodoo Vixen dress, because I think this shall be the one!

_DSC0179I have on a medium and it fits just right! I figured its about time I share my measurements with you, so you can use it as comparison.

Bust: 37″ Waist: 29″ Hips 40″

The fabric is a black cotton sateen, which just a touch of stretch, but I wouldn’t really count on it, when deciding what size to order. I almost always wear a medium in Pinup Girl, and like I mentioned this fit like a glove.

This dress hits me in all the right places, but like I said its not just me! A girlfriend of mine, whom also fit into the medium, has a bit bigger hips and bust, but it fit her great as well. It really is a dress for ever one and every size!

_DSC0182When I purchase this beauty, you can bet I’ll be getting in from Rowena,  my favorite dress shop! Their website, Retroglam.com, also has this baby listed, but I must advise to get it quick, because I don’t see it lasting in the shop or online for long!

_DSC0183

The detail on the Voodoo Vixen is fantastic- its simple, but stunning. The neckline sits perfectly and the waterfall along the hip is placed just right. I believe this dress most definitely will be my grad dress- what do you think?

B.A.I.T sneak peak

Another line we carry at Rowena, is B.A.I.T a sweet and retro inspired shoe line! Everyone goes gaga over the B.A.I.T shoes we bring is because they are so sweet and cute, not to mention comfortable and affordable..

We stopped in quick to pick out some styles for spring, so I took the opportunity to snap just a few photos to share.

2013-08-19 18.32.32

Lots of pastels, t-straps, brogues, open toes, bows, and sling heels for spring

2013-08-19 18.32.12

And lots of moody colours like brown, burgundy, forest green, and navy for fall. Boots with hooks, heels with straps and cute cut outs, velvet, suede, and patterns!

2013-08-19 18.32.22

B.A.I.T always has the cutest shoes no matter what season! I’m looking forward to the new styles, but spring just seems so far away!

a sneak peak at lux de ville

While at the trade show in Vegas, we of course, stopped at the Lux de Ville both to put in an order and check out the new designs. In the past 8 months, I have acquired three Lux de Ville handbags, because I am in love with their design, look, and the sparkle!

The Lux de Ville both was glittering top to bottom with baby pink, mint, champagne, and the more traditional, red, black, and white

vegas aug 2013 035

Lux de Ville has two new shapes for their handbags this upcoming season- a kiss lock on one and a more casual one which kind of looks like an elegant bowling bag ( I can’t think of another way to describe the shape). Not only do they have two new handbags, they also have gorgeous ipad cases that come with cross body straps ( ” for those crazy girls who go hiking” Yvette) and fantastic laptop bags!

vegas aug 2013 036

Aside from all the bags, there were also kiss lock coin purses, smaller wallets than usual, and zip pouches for coin or perhaps lipsticks and such.

I loved seeing all the new designs and choosing which ones to get for the shop! And the designer/owner was quite lovely, as were the two other people she had with her helping show off the sparkly goods and take orders.

Keep an eye out on the Rowena page to see when the shipment has arrived. I’d suggest getting into the store or placing an order quickly too, as new Lux de Ville flies off the shelves! Check out RetroGlam.com to see what’s in stock now and to place an order when the new shipment is in.
